HealthProcure Intel is a fully remote, cloud-hosted software company with a small operational footprint. This policy sets out how we measure, manage and reduce the environmental impact of our platform and business activities, and reflects our commitment to continuous improvement as we grow. As a young company, our footprint is modest, but we believe good habits are easiest to build early, and we take this commitment seriously as part of the wider social value we bring to the healthcare sector we serve.
Table of Contents
1.Our Commitment
HealthProcure Intel is committed to minimising the environmental impact of our operations, understanding our carbon footprint as we scale, and making genuine, proportionate reductions rather than symbolic gestures. We would rather under-promise and consistently deliver than publish targets we can't evidence.
Because we are a small, remote-first software company, our direct environmental footprint is inherently limited compared to a business with offices, a manufacturing footprint, or a physical supply chain. Our primary environmental impact comes from cloud computing and the electricity used to power the infrastructure our platform runs on.
2.Scope
This policy covers HealthProcure Intel's operations as a software business: our cloud hosting and infrastructure, our (fully remote) team's working practices, and our approach to business travel and equipment. It does not cover the healthcare procurement data we aggregate, which originates from third-party public sources and is outside our operational control.
3.Our Main Sources of Emissions
- Cloud hosting and compute: our API, dashboard and scraping infrastructure run on third-party cloud infrastructure (Railway) and managed database services (Supabase).
- Remote working: our team works remotely, meaning our footprint is distributed across home working setups rather than a centralised office.
- Software tooling: the everyday SaaS tools (communication, project management, analytics) that any digital business relies on.
- Minimal business travel: occasional travel for meetings, conferences or partner visits.
We do not operate warehouses, manufacturing facilities, a vehicle fleet, or physical offices.
4.Reduction Measures We Have In Place
- Remote-first by default: we do not maintain a physical office, avoiding the energy, heating, lighting and commuting footprint that comes with one.
- Efficient infrastructure: our platform is built to run efficiently, scheduled, incremental data updates rather than constant, wasteful polling; automated processes that scale down when not in use.
- Cloud providers with their own sustainability commitments: we choose infrastructure partners who publish their own environmental and efficiency commitments where possible, and factor this into future vendor decisions.
- Digital-first operations: our product, sales and marketing materials are digital by default, minimising printing and physical waste.
- Minimising unnecessary travel: defaulting to video calls over in-person meetings unless there is a clear reason to travel.
5.Our Targets
As a very early-stage company, we are setting proportionate, honest targets that we will update as we grow and gather more data:
- Measure before we offset: as our usage and infrastructure spend grow, we will begin estimating our cloud compute emissions using our hosting providers' available tooling.
- Maintain a remote-first, low-footprint operating model as we scale the team.
- Review this policy annually and publish an updated version reflecting our actual footprint and progress, not just intentions.
- Work towards net zero operational emissions as we mature as a company, formalising a measured baseline and offsetting/reduction plan once our scale justifies it.
6.Governance & Accountability
As a solo-founder company, ultimate responsibility for this policy sits with the founder and director of HealthProcure Intel. As the team grows, we will formalise environmental responsibility as a named part of an operations or sustainability role.
7.Suppliers & Partners
Where practical, we favour infrastructure and software partners who publish their own credible environmental commitments. As our supplier relationships grow (payment processing, hosting, data services), we will factor sustainability into vendor selection alongside cost, security and reliability.
8.Review & Reporting
This policy is reviewed at least annually, or sooner if our operations change materially (for example, hiring a team, adopting new infrastructure, or reaching a scale where formal carbon accounting becomes appropriate). The version history and date of last review are shown at the top of this page.
